Course objectives
- introduction to the social realities of life, outlining the historical background of development, geographical situation and cultural and artistic wealth on selected examples of the Italian language area.
- familiarization with the most important aspects of the culture of the countries of the Italian language area in comparison to Poland and the countries of the language of the main specialization of studies.
- motivating reflection on the broadly understood contemporary culture of the Italian language area, using as many authentic sources/materials as possible.
- motivating to create statements/opinions/comments in a foreign language; improving practical knowledge of Italian.
- shaping an attitude of openness and tolerance towards other cultures;
- shaping the student's personality and attitude, learning respect for one's own culture and nation.

Course content
1. Selected elements of Italian history; the impact of historical events on the shape of contemporary cultural and socio-political life.
2. Selected issues regarding the geographical situation of Italian.
3. Analysis of selected aspects of Italian socio-political life.
4. Social life, culinary traditions, sports and ways of spending free time - selected elements of the picture of everyday life in Italian societies.
5. Selected traditions, celebrating holidays, entertainment.
6. The cultural richness of Italian - discussion of selected elements of culture, including contemporary culture, e.g. literary, musical and film achievements.
7. Mass media and the creation of mass culture in Italian society.

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity::
- Inductive
- Seminar: with elements of discussion;
- Extensive use of audiovisual means, including exercises supported by audiovisual means.

2. carrying out analysis, interpretation and assessment of social life phenomena in the context of Italian tradition, culture and history; using course content to create a frame of reference for studying, understanding and teaching the language, literature and history of a given society; engaging in discussions and debates on realism topics (m-U-1/P6S_UW)

3. openness to otherness, richness and diversity of other cultural circles; awareness of changes taking place in modern societies; willingness to constantly follow and comment on news regarding Italian society (m-K-2/ P6S_KO)
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in classes - 50% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3)
2. Presentation - 50% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3)
pass at 60% of the final grade
