The course aims to provide an introductory foundation for students interested in the field of medical English translation.

1. Introduction, definition and importance of medical translation.
2. Introduction to basic medical vocabulary.
3. Understanding medical prefixes, suffixes, and roots.
4. Exploring common medical abbreviations and acronyms.
5. Understanding the structure of medical documents (e.g., patient records, medical reports).
6. Introduction to various medical specialties (e.g., cardiology, oncology, radiology).
7. Vocabulary and terminology specific to each medical field, translation exercises in different medical contexts.
8. Anatomy and physiology terminology.
9. Translation exercises related to body systems and organs.
10. Exploration of disease-related terminology.
11. Translation exercises focusing on diagnostic procedures and terminology.
12. Overview of pharmaceutical texts.
13. Translation of medication instructions, labels, and package inserts.

Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation, homework translation assignments - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)
2. A multiple-choice vocabulary test - 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,3)
pass at 60% of the final grade
