Course objectives:
The main aim of the course is to improve pronunciation of vowels, diphthongs and consonants.

Course content:
1. Introduction to speech sounds in standard BE and their IPA representations
2. Mechanisms and organs responsible for speech production.
3. Short and long vowels in BE
4. Diphthongs and triphthongs in BE
5. Consonants in BE
6. Consolidation: IPA practice (focus on words commonly mispronounced by Polish learners of English)
7. Individual pronunciation practice.

Methods of instruction/forms of classroom activity:
individual and group work, practical language exercises, repeating recorded sounds, reading transcribed sounds, transcribing, working with computer programme „Say it right”, ICT tools/MSTeams if needed

Assessment criteria
Form of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in classes 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)
2. Transcription test 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,3)
3. Pronunciation tasks 40% of the final grade (outcome 2,4)
pass at 60%
