Social aspects of translation 1.S2.EP.AP.10
Course objectives:
The main aim is to develop students' ability to translate various texts in a social context. The course includes practical translation exercises from various fields and forms of professional activity, emphasising on the direct and indirect influence of translation/translators on social life.

Practical component (March-April-early May)
–7 translation classes
•Banking, Advertising, Tourism
•Technological component (May) – 3 classes
- Language corpora and wordnets in translation
•Students’ presentations component (late May-June)

–A short assignment (to pass)
•Students’ presentations
–In groups (2-3 people), prepare a 15-minute-long presentation on a piece of research on social aspects of translation and present it to the group (online)
•Final credit: mean of 2 grades + pass on technological component

Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Written translation assignment - 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. A short assignment - 20% of the final grade (outcome 5,6)
2. Presentation on a selected aspect of translator's profession - 40%of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,5)
Practical component - submit 1 translation
Technological component - submit a short assignment (to pass)
