Course objectives
To develop students' understanding of culture in the context of communication.
To develop students' knowledge about communication processes in diverse institutions.
To induce reflexive thinking about oneself in diverse institutions.
To trigger critical thinking about power relations and their institutionalization in communication processes in culturally diverse contexts.

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity:
reading and in-class discussion, group or individual assignments, mini-case studies, interaction with FORTHEM peers via Diversity and Migration lab, that include tandem assignments, interviews with lab stakeholders and experts in the field of intercultural communication in Europe.

Students can:
3. search for, analyze, select and use information utilizing various sources and methods (m-U-1/P6S_UO)
4. communicate in English at C1 level with experts in public communication both directly and through various media channels (m-U-2/P6S_UK)
5. collaborate with other students to prepare projects, presentations or texts in English that can be publicized out of class (k_U08/P6S_UO; K_U12)
Social competences
Student:
6. can specify the priorities for the implementation of their goals and tasks designated by others in media contexts and recognize and respect cultural, social and ethnic differences in communication patterns (m-K-1/P6S_KR)
7. shapes their own views on the basis of the gained general and detailed knowledge in media contexts and is aware of their civic responsibilities and are tolerant towards the other actors in the public sphere (m-K-2/P6S_KK)
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active class participation - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Individual written tasks / oral presentations - up to 80% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
Pass at 60 % of the final grade
