Course objectives:
- familiarising with the main theories and techniques in the field of interpersonal communication
- developing skills in basic and more advanced communication techniques.
- familiarising with basic problems of interpersonal communication in a conflict situation
- developing skills for constructive handling of difficult interpersonal situations.
- familiarising with social influence techniques and the basics of preparation for conducting a conversation - an interview.
- simulation of speaking in a public forum.

Knowledge
The student knows and understands:
1. at the advanced level the position and importance of philological studies in the psychological sphere, with particular emphasis on tourist services (k_W01/P6S_WG)
2. psychological terminology used to describe communication processes in the context of tourism (k_W04/P6S_WG)
3. advanced techniques used in communication and giving presentations (k_W03/P6S_WG)
4. principles of organization and functioning of institutions related to tourism, in particular psychological conditions of functioning in various positions in institutions related to tourism (k_W07/P6S_WK)
5. methods of diagnosing the needs of recipients of promotional and advertising activities in tourism and assessing the quality of services, taking into account psychological aspects (k_W09/P6S_WK)
Skills
The student is able to:
6. independently search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information from written and electronic sources and develop professional skills in psychology related to tourism (k_U05/ P6S_UW)
7. participate in business communication related to tourist services (conversations with individual clients and groups, presentation of tourist attractions, the ability to use social influence techniques in the sale of tourist services), in Polish and English (k_U12/P6S_UK)
Social competence
The student is ready to:
8. set priorities while performing various tasks related to studying and professional work (k_K01/P6S_KK)
9. critically assess and solve problems arising from the implementation of tasks; actions in stressful situations such as public speaking, giving presentations or debating (k_K02/P6S_KK)
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in the workshops - 20% of the final grade (outcome1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.9)
2. Conducting and describing an interview (10-minute interview) - 40% of the final grade (outcome 2,4,5,6,7,8.9)
3. Presentation of a selected tourist attraction in accordance with the principles of effective public speaking - 40% of the final grade (outcome 2,3,4,5,7,8,9)
Criteria of assessment:
Interview (individual work)
- substantive preparation of the student for the interview - job description and preparation of questions for the interview (0-5 points),
- description and analysis of conclusions from the interview (0-5 points),
- quality of documentation (notes, audio recording) (0-2 points),
Public speaking (teamwork)
Preparation of a public speech based on the guidelines and information contained in the manual. Substantive preparation based on the literature selected by the student.
It will be assessed
- substantive preparation of the student to the discussed topic (0-5 points),
- the form of the speech (matching the form of the speech to its purpose and assumed type) (0-5 points),
- non-verbal communication (the ability to use elements of non-verbal communication to effectively present a speech) (0-5 points),
- the ability to interest the audience in the topic (0-1 points),
- preparation of the speech plan (0-2 points)
pass at 60% of the final grade
