Course objectives:
- getting to know the basic issues concerning the history of art
- learning the terminology related to the description and analysis of architecture
- getting to know and interpreting works of ancient and contemporary art

Course content
• Types of art. Functions of art (discussion), importance of architecture
• Periodization, Prehistory
• Egypt - the meaning of the canon. Architecture examples
• Greece, Rome - what we owe to the ancient masters
• Byzantium, the "eastern lung of Europe".
• Middle Ages: the concept of epoch, style on the example of Polish architecture, Romanism (the importance of monasteries), Gothic innovation on the example of Gothic in the field.
• Modern art - the importance of Italy, the Transalpine Renaissance and Mannerism, the importance of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in the development of modern architecture, Baroque (examples in the field).
• Classicism - a return to the assumptions of antiquity?
• 19th century architecture (examples in the field)
• The phenomenon of Art Nouveau (examples in the field)
• 20th century architecture
• Contemporary art - crossing borders.

The student knows and understands:
1. advanced terminology used to describe works of art and architecture (k_W04/P6S_WG)
2. geographical, historical and cultural aspects necessary to support tourism, including elements of art history (k_W11/P6S_WK)
3. genre, pragmatic and stylistic rules of spoken and written genres of expression, typical for the description of architecture and works of art (k_W12/P6S_WK)
Skills
The student is able to:
4. independently search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information from written and electronic sources and develop professional skills related to the history of art (k_U05/P6S_UW)
5. express themselves in a coherent and precise manner in speech and writing on selected issues of art history (k_U11/P6S_UK)
6. plan and organize individual and team work (k_U14/P6S_UO)
7. independently plan and implement their own lifelong learning in relation to works of art and architecture (k_U16/P6S_UU)
Social competence
The student is ready to:
8. set priorities during the implementation of various tasks related to the contact with works of art and architecture (k_K01/P6S_KK)

Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in workshops (including field exercises - group work) - 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10)
2. Tasks, written and oral, verifying the correct use of terminology related to the history of art and the analysis of the discussed objects - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,5,10)
2. Tests (object recognition) - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,5,10)
Pass at 60% of the final grade.
