Course objectives:
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with various types of English texts, improve their comprehension skills and enrich the newly acquired vocabulary.

Activities developing language skills in the area of written translation of specialist texts from English into Polish and Polish into English.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes acc to PRK 2019
Knowledge: Student
1. is familiar with the basic terminology and conceptual framework of translation studies regarding specialist texts' translation (m-W-1/ P6S_WG)
2. has a working knowledge of the theoretical approaches to translation and the main research paradigms (m-W-2/P6S_WK)
Skills: Student
3. has the ability to search for, analyze, select, and use information related to translation by consulting academic and popular sources and tools, including electronic ones, apply techniques for collecting data, and produce good-quality translations (m-U-1/P6S_UW)
4. is able to analyze target language (TL) translations in relation to their source language (SL) texts and evaluate the former objectively and constructively - with the focus on specialist texts (m-U-2/P6S_UW)
Social competences: Student
5. is ready to make responsible and ethical use of translation products and practices in and out of the classroom - regarding specialist texts (m-K-1/P6S_KR)
6. shapes their own views regarding the significance of reliable translation for the development of the society and its general and specialized information needs (m-K-2/P6S_KK)
Assessment criteria
Forms of eveluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in classes - 10% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,6)
2. Vocabulary tests - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,4)
3. 10 practical translation exercises - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,4,5,6)
4. Individual and group comprehension tests - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,3,4)
Pass at 60% of the final grade
