The Essence of Stoicism KZ-02-27-00062
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the tradition of Stoic spirituality both in its classical form and in its modern and contemporary forms. Classical texts (Seneca, Cicero, Marcus Aurelius) as well as modern (Spinoza, Montaigne) and contemporary (Kotarbiński, Twardowski) texts will be discussed. Basic concepts related to Stoic tradition, such as adiaphoron, atareaxia, apathy, ananke, etc., will be discussed. The Stoic concept of destiny and its modern transformations (amor fati) will be discussed in detail. The Stoic concept of virtue will be discussed in detail.
