-Understanding the history of ballroom dancing, learning about selected ballroom dances (an outline of the history, style and character of individual dances).
Getting to know the dance steps and figures for individual dances. The aim of the course is to master the sense of rhythm and movement as well as spatial orientation skills, as well as to shape general fitness and coordination.
Program content:
- the principles of safety and hygiene during ballroom dancing, origins and circumstances of ballroom dancing;
- dance as a form of human expression through movement: the rhythm sense and movement ability, the spatial orientation ability;
- ballroom dance classification; standard dance: history outline, rhythm, tempo, style and character, dance technique;
- latin dance: history outline, rhythm, tempo, style and character, dance technique;
- terminology: dance line, direction of movement, positions (open, promenade, reverse promenade), dance posture;
- English/slow waltz: changeable steps, basic figure, natural/right turn;
- tango: fourstep forward, fourstep backward, closed promenade;
- Viennese Waltz: natural turn, change steps;
- samba: basic step, natural turn;
- cha cha cha: basic step forward and backward, spot turn;
- rumba: basic step forward and backward, spot turn;
- paso doble: fixed position steps, side steps, forward and backward steps;
- jive: basic step, underarm turn;
- rock and roll: jive: basic step, underarm turn;
- blues: basic figure, natural turn, reverse turn

- knowledge of the history and theory of dance;
- familiarity with the classification of standard and latin ballroom dance;
- familiarity with dance terminology;
- ability to match the steps and dance figures to the specific dance category;
- ability to sense rhythm and movement;

- improved understanding of the need for personal physical health care;
- understanding of the meaning of dance as a form of human expression through movement
Assessment criteria
- presentation of steps and dance figures learned in specific ballroom dances;
- familiarity with program content;
- active participation in class work, 80 %
- preparation of a short dance arrangement by the student (freely chosen dance).
