Professional status:

A graduate has theoretical knowledge allowing him or her to describe and explain processes and phenomena present in nature and daily life, as well as specialist knowledge covering biotechnology. A graduate is prepared to: use the acquired knowledge while developing and optimisation of biotechnological processes; design and conduct processes focused on obtaining products with the desired characteristics; design and conduct experiments and conduct research in the area of biotechnology. A graduate is prepared to work in: scientific and research units supporting biotechnology industry and the related sectors, research, control and diagnostic laboratories as well as project teams concentrating their efforts on biotechnological process. A graduate has the habit of lifelong learning and professional development installed and is prepared to undertake research challenges and the third level of (doctoral degree) studies.

Teaching standards

Learning outcomes for the course Biotechnology approved pursuant to the resolution 161/2008-2012 of the UO Senate on 24.05.2012. Programme of studies as definined by the Resolution number 1/35/2008-2012 of the Faculty Board of Natural and Technical Sciences on 14.04.2012. The student is required to complete all courses (lectures, laboratories, seminars and field classes). Each course ends with a pass, some are followed by an examination that can be taken only after obtaining a pass. During the last semester, the student is obliged to write a master thesis and then successfully defend it before the Faculty Examination Board at the diploma examination. The diploma examination consists of two parts, final examination of the entire specialist knowledge acquired during the studies and the defence of the master thesis. The final grading is calculated taking into account the arithmetic mean of all grades entered into the student's transcript (0.50), assessment of the master thesis (0.25) and the diploma examination grade (0.25).
