About the programme

This MA program is aimed at creating a community of responsible business leaders that are aware of the need for more sustainable solutions in socio-economic life. Candidates will have a great opportunity to learn the theory which enables a real shift towards sustainability, to acquire skills and capabilities to run more sustainable businesses, as well as to support the idea of sustainable development in other significant ways.

The MA programme prepares students to work in an economic environment, however, in different and variety of sectors, including not only SMEs or large international companies, but NGOs, public institutions, local and central government agencies etc. as well.

The graduates of the Sustainable Development Master’s Programme at the University of Opole can further their education at any university that offers a PhD programme in Economics. Alternatively, they can take up master’s studies in business administration (MBA).

Graduates can apply for admission to doctoral studies and other postgraduate courses.

Professional status:

The graduate of the second-cycle programme in Economics has the comprehensive knowledge of economics and management of financial, human and material resources. They are able to use analytical methods to study economic phenomena and processes and to model them on a micro- and macroeconomic scale. The graduate is prepared to develop various projects, provide consulting services and make rational decisions related to the acquisition and use of resources by private and public sector entities in Poland and abroad. They have the knowledge needed to undertake work in various sectors and segments of the European market as well as the knowledge and skills required to run their own businesses. The graduate is prepared to take up the third-cycle studies.

Teaching standards

Learning outcomes for Economics approved in the Resolution No. 49/2016-2020 of the Senate of the University of Opole of 25.05.2017. The programme of study was specified by the Resolution of the Council of the Faculty of Economics of 21.03.2017.

Learning outcomes

Full qualification at the seventh level of the Polish Qualifications Framework.
Graduate knows and understands:
- in the advanced degree – selected economic facts, objects and phenomena and connected economic methods and theories explaining complex dependencies between them, forming the advanced general knowledge in the field of economics, forming its theoretical basis, ordered and theoretically supported knowledge including key issues and selected issues of the advanced knowledge of economics
- main trends in the development of economics
- in the advanced degree - scientific theories relevant to economics and the direction of their development, as well as advanced research methodology
- in the advanced degree - the nature, place and significance of social sciences in the system of sciences and their relationship to other sciences
- in the advanced degree - human characteristics as a subject constituting social structures and the rules of their functioning
- fundamental dilemmas of modern civilisation in terms of their research and application for solving complex social and economic problems
- economic, legal and other determinants and concepts connected with economic research
- rules of the management of intellectual property, and the form of development of individual entrepreneurship
- the contents associated with a selected economic speciality

Graduate can:
- use their economic knowledge - formulate and solve complex and unusual problems concerning economic phenomena and processes, and perform tasks in conditions not fully predictable thanks to:
- a proper selection of sources and information drawn from them, evaluation, critical analysis, synthesis, and creative interpretation of that information;
- selection and use of appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication techniques (ICT)
- identify, interpret and explain complex economic phenomena and processes, and relations between them using the knowledge of scientific disciplines relevant to the field of economics
- analyse, forecast and model complex economic processes and phenomena using advanced methods and tools of scientific disciplines specific to the field of economics
- properly use normative systems in solving selected problems of scientific disciplines relevant to economics, in regard to selected economic categories
- communicate on specialist topics with different audiences
- conduct a debate
- use a foreign language at least at the level of B2+ of the Common European Framework for Languages and at the higher level in the scope of specialist terminology
- manage a team
- individually plan and carry out their own learning throughout life and guide others in this respect
- use the knowledge and experience associated with the selected economic speciality

Graduate is ready to:
- critically assess the content received, recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive practical problems in the field of economics
- fulfil social obligations, instigate and organise actions for social environment, initiate actions for public interest, think and act resourcefully
- responsibly exercise professional roles, taking into account the changing needs of society, including:
- the development of the profession,
- maintaining the ethos of the profession,
- respecting and developing the rules of professional ethics and act for compliance with these rules
- function competently, responsibly and ethically within the area defined by the selected economic speciality
