Editing (1-PRK-ED-S.L.3)

The graduate of the Editing programme knows:
- at an advanced level, selected facts, objects and phenomena of culture and connected literary and linguistic (including textual) methods and theories explaining complex dependencies between them, forming the basic general knowledge in the field of Polish literary studies and linguistics with elements of culture studies (including editing and lettering), forming its theoretical basis, and selected issues of the detailed knowledge of Polish literary studies and linguistics;
- the place and significance of Polish literary studies and linguistics in the system of humanities and social sciences, their specific subject matter and methodology, and the directions of their development;
- theories, methodology and general and specific terminology in the field of literary studies and linguistics, and specific terminology in the field of editing (design and preparation for printing of compact and continuous publications);
- methods of analysis, interpretation and editing, editorial revision of literary, scientific and popular science texts within selected traditions, theories and research schools in literary studies;
- the various phases of the creation of literary, scientific and popular science works, as well as the signs used in the critical apparatus in critical editions of literary, scientific and popular science works when juxtaposing different versions of the same literary text;
- basic economic, legal and other considerations, and concepts connected with research in editing and lettering;
- rules of the intellectual property protection and copyright law
- principles of the operation of cultural systems and institutions relevant to the scope of the professional activity appropriate for literary studies (mainly for editing, but also culture and media):
- the content associated with the elective module (as specified in a separate list of module learning outcomes)

The graduate of the Editing programme can:
- apply their knowledge of literary and linguistic studies (including, in particular, the revision, editing and critical editing of literary, scientific and popular science works);
- formulate and solve complex and non-standard problems related to literary phenomena, and perform tasks under conditions that are not wholly predictable by: appropriate selection of sources and information from them, evaluation, critical analysis and synthesis of this information, appropriate selection of techniques and methods of the editor's work related to the preparation of the text for print (e.g. organisational work, editing, taking care of the appropriate substantive, artistic, graphic, typographic level of the published work), selection and application of appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication technology (ICT);
- formulate and analyse research problems, choose methods and tools for solving them, using knowledge of literary studies and linguistics (with the possibility of including the knowledge in related sciences, including in particular editing and lettering)
- recognize literary texts and carry out their critical analysis and interpretation with the use of standard methods used in literary studies, allowing for an assessment of their relevance and impact in the historical and cultural process.
- communicate using specialist terminology for the description of literary, scientific and popular science texts using philological and textological research methods;
- take part in a debate - present and evaluate different opinions and positions in terms of culture and discuss them;
- use a foreign language at level B2:
- plan and organise work - individual and within a team (including in particular an editorial and publishing team managing the publishing process);
- independently plan and carry out his/her own learning throughout life;
- use the knowledge associated with the elective module.

The graduate of the Editing programme is ready to:
- critically assess his/her knowledge of literary studies and linguistics (including editing), and recognise the importance of knowledge of literature, language and culture in solving cognitive and practical problems:
- fulfil social obligations, co-organise activities for the social environment;
responsibly perform the professional roles of an editor, publisher and proofreader and publishing house manager, which includes: compliance with the rules of professional ethics and requiring it from others, caring for the achievements and traditions of the profession;
- participate in cultural life and use its various forms:
- function competently, responsibly and ethically in the area defined by the selected module
