Graduates can apply for admission to doctoral studies and other postgraduate courses.

Professional status:

Graduates of English studies (English Philology) have general humanistic education as well as knowledge of the literature, culture and history of English-speaking countries, including general linguistic education. Their command of oral and written English is at C2 level of CEFR for Languages. Depending on their major, graduates have specialist knowledge of linguistics, literature, or culture of English-speaking countries. The skills acquired enable them to seek employment in publishing houses, translation agencies, cultural institutions as well as a service sector that requires advanced command of English and knowledge of culture of English-speaking countries. Graduates of teaching specialization have the required qualifications to teach in all types of schools. Graduate studies also prepare candidates for doctoral studies in a similar field.

Teaching standards

A student should obtain credits for all the courses according to the binding curriculum, i.e. lectures (lec) and classes (clas), and successfully complete a four-week vocational practice. Each course ends with an examination or an end-of-semester test. A student is credited for a course if s/he obtains a positive grade for classes or lectures provided for in the curriculum for that course.
In the last year of studies, a student is obliged to pass the diploma exam organised by the Faculty Board. The diploma exam consists of competence exam in the field of knowledge acquired in the course of studies. The final grade is calculated as the average of grades received from all of the courses and exams taken during studies (50%) and the grade from diploma project (25%) and diploma exam (25%).
