bachelor's degree studies full time, 3 years Language: English | Jump to: Opis ogólnySTUDY ENGLISH PHILOLOGY If you want to be well prepared to face the challenges of a highly competitive job market, study English Philology full time at the University of Opole. This is the place where students gain advanced knowledge of language, literature, and culture and history of English-speaking countries as well as practical language skills at a high C1 proficiency level of CEFR for languages. Additionally, students develop a second foreign language at B2 level. Moreover, within their study programme students choose an educational path through elective courses that add competence to their general academic education. Full time studies offer such elective modules as: Culture Studies, Translation Studies, English and Spanish or English and Italian, expanding their employment options in the future. The classes on full-time studies are held from Monday through Friday. Some courses are conducted online, others are held in classrooms on the university site. All lecturers are available to students during their office hours to discuss academic issues relating to the courses. Bachelor of Arts studies (undergraduate studies) finish with a BA defense and a BA degree. Undergraduate studies in English Philology prepare candidates for graduate studies in a similar field. WHAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE AT OPOLE UNIVERSITY? A professional team of academic teachers and lecturers supports and guides the undergraduates in their intellectual growth. Students are educated in modern lecture rooms in the newly renovated historical building of Collegium Maius equipped with modern audiovisual technology and a modern computer room with several stands. The room with interpretation booths is used for interpreting classes. Our library and the reading room offer access to an extensive collection of Anglo-Saxon literature (more than 37 thousand volumes devoted to various aspects of culture and language of English speaking countries and 100 titles of journals and magazines devoted to teaching). STUDENT MOBILITY PERSPECTIVES Our students can enroll in an exchange programme Erasmus+ offered by the University of Opole, which allows for studying abroad for a semester or two, developing foreign language communication skills, learning about culture of a foreign country and gaining professional knowledge via a foreign language. Our partners are, among others, in Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, HungarySpain, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Germany, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Italy. FUTURE CAREER PROSPECTS Undergraduates of English Philology finish their studies with strong communication skills in English in writing and speaking at C1 level and a B2 command of a second foreign language. They may seek employment requiring advanced command of English and, depending on their choices of elective courses, knowledge of culture of English-speaking countries, or knowledge of translation theory and practice, intermediate command of Spanish or Italian, knowledge of Spanish speaking countries or Italy. Moreover, our students finish their studies with the ability to search for information in various sources, to analyze and synthesize information, and to work effectively both independently and in teams. They also understand the need to learn throughout life. They are well prepared for a career in, for example: ·translation and interpretation bureaus ·public relations ·publishing houses ·advertising agencies ·fundraising organizations ·commercial, corporate or other business institutions ·research institutes ·many other fields that require advanced knowledge of English and liberal arts education. Students interested in gaining teaching qualifications are advised to continue their education and enroll in MA studies with the Teacher Training Programme or in additional teacher training post-graduate studies also offered by the University of Opole. Undergraduates of English Philology knows and understands:
• the place and significance of the philological science among humanities and its analytical and methodological tools
• basic terminology and theories of linguistic, literary and cultural studies
• the role of English as a cognitive means and a tool used for studying
• main methods of analysis and interpretation of culture products, in the studied disciplines, including theories and research schools within English philology
• complex nature and historical changes of language
• geographical, historical and political facts referring to the English-speaking countries
• elements of academic discourse relating to the studied discipline
• legal, ethical and linguistic considerations of their professional activity resulting from the studied discipline
• principles of functioning of cultural institutions related to the scope of English philology
• principles of copyright and its protection in relation to various cultural products, in particular in the field of English philology
• basic facts regarding the literature of English-speaking countries
• the contents associated with the elective module (as specified in a separate list of module learning outcomes)
Undergraduates of English Philology can:
• use the terminology and take theoretical standpoints resulting from English studies
• recognize different types of texts in order to perform their critical analysis and assess their relevance and impact in cultural processes
• use arguments and formulate logical conclusions based on studies of other authors
• create and read English-language texts and prepare elaborate presentations relating to English studies using formal sources
• use English at the level of C1 of the Common European Framework for Languages
• formulate research problems and use appropriate tools and methods to analyse and discuss them with other specialists in the field of English philology under the guidance of the supervisor
• explore and critically analyse information from various sources in the field of English philology
• take up individual and group activities aimed at developing language skills and study techniques to ensure success in learning
• use the acquired knowledge and skills to deepen their academic interests in the intra- and interdisciplinary dimension
• use another foreign language at B2 level.

Undergraduates of English Philology are ready to:
