Informacje ogólne

Położnictwo jest jedną z najstarszych dziedzin medycyny.

Rola zawodowa położnej to udzielanie opieki ginekologicznej, położniczej, neonatologicznej i pielęgniarskiej, polegającej na pielęgnowaniu ciężarnej i rodzącej, samodzielnym prowadzeniu i przyjęciu porodu fizjologicznego, pielęgnowaniu położnicy i jej dziecka oraz kobiety z chorobą ginekologiczną, a także opieka nad kobietą i jej rodziną w okresie dojrzewania, przedkoncepcyjnym, prokreacji, przekwitania, starości.

Położna powinna być profesjonalistką, osobą kompetentną, otwartą, kreatywną. Powinna w sposób asertywny wyrażać swoje potrzeby, emocje i poglądy, w swojej pracy uznaje osobowość podopiecznych, indywidualizm oraz tworzy relacje, które cechuje wzajemny szacunek i zaufanie. Pielęgnując, położna swoje działania dopasowuje do oczekiwań i wymagań podmiotu opieki. Wykonywanie zawodu położnej wiąże się z olbrzymią odpowiedzialnością i ustawicznym kształceniem zawodowym.

Czego uczy się na kierunku położnictwo

1. W zakresie wiedzy posiada:

  •     szczegółową wiedzę z zakresu położnictwa,
  •     ogólną wiedzę z zakresu innych nauk medycznych,
  •     znajomość etyki zawodowej i przepisów prawnych dotyczących wykonywania zawodu położnej.

2. W zakresie umiejętności potrafi:

  •     wykonywać świadczenia zdrowotne wobec: kobiety i jej rodziny, kobiety ciężarnej, kobiety rodzącej, położnicy i noworodka oraz kobiety chorej ginekologicznie w zakresie promocji zdrowia, profilaktyki i profesjonalnej opieki położniczo-ginekologicznej - przedkoncepcyjnej, prenatalnej, perinatalnej oraz w okresie przekwitania i senium,
  •     rozpoznawać ciążę, sprawować opiekę nad kobietą w przebiegu ciąży fizjologicznej i monitorować ciążę prawidłową, samodzielnie prowadzić i przyjąć poród fizjologiczny (w warunkach szpitalnych i pozaszpitalnych), w przypadku konieczności także z nacięciem i szyciem krocza, monitorować płód z wykorzystaniem aparatury medycznej oraz wykrywać stany odbiegające od normy u matki i dziecka w okresie ciąży, porodu i połogu,
  •     podejmować konieczne działania w sytuacjach nagłych, do czasu przybycia lekarza, w tym ręcznie wydobyć łożysko, a w przypadku potrzeby także ręcznie zbadać macicę,
  •     sprawować opiekę nad matką i noworodkiem, monitorować przebieg okresu poporodowego oraz badać noworodka, a także podejmować w sytuacji nagłej wszelkie niezbędne działania, w tym natychmiastową reanimację,
  •     współpracować z personelem medycznym, w tym z przedstawicielami innych zawodów medycznych,
  •     prowadzić działalność edukacyjno-zdrowotną w zakresie przygotowania do życia w rodzinie, metod planowania rodziny, ochrony macierzyństwa i ojcostwa, przygotowania do rodzicielstwa i urodzenia dziecka, łącznie z poradnictwem na temat higieny i żywienia oraz prowadzenia profilaktyki chorób kobiecych i patologii położniczych.
  • 3. W zakresie kompetencji społecznych:
  •     ma świadomość czynników wpływających na reakcje własne i pacjenta,
  •     ma świadomość potrzeby permanentnego kształcenia się,
  •     potrafi samodzielnie wykonywać zawód, zgodnie z zasadami etyki ogólnej i zawodowej oraz holistycznego podejścia do podopiecznych, uwzględniającego poszanowanie i respektowanie ich praw.

Czas trwania studiów

  •  6 semestrów,
  • plan studiów obejmuje 4750 godzin, w tym 2300 godzin kształcenia praktycznego (zajęć praktycznych i praktyk zawodowych);

Professional status:

The graduate is prepared to perform the profession independently. In the area of knowledge the graduate knows and understands: specialist issues in midwifery, neonatology and gynaecology; development, structure and functions of the human body in normal and pathological conditions; aetiology, pathomechanism, symptoms, course and methods of diagnostic and therapeutic-care proceedings in selected disease entities in internal diseases, surgery, paediatrics and psychiatry; conditions and mechanisms of functioning of healthy and sick persons; health care system in the Republic of Poland and selected European Union member states; principles of health promotion and disease prevention; models of midwifery care for a woman in every period of life and health condition; ethical, social and legal conditions of performing a midwifery profession. In terms of skills the graduate can: provide health services in the case of: a pregnant woman, a woman giving birth, a woman in the postpartum period and a new-born, as well as a gynaecologically sick woman, within the scope of health promotion, prophylaxis and professional obstetric-gynaecological, preconception, prenatal, perinatal care, as well as in the case of a woman in the period of menopause and senescence; diagnose pregnancy, care for a woman in physiological pregnancy and perform the examinations necessary to monitor its course; independently conduct and deliver a physiological birth (in hospital and out-of-hospital conditions) and a birth from the pelvic position, also with incision and suturing of the perineum; monitor the foetus with the use of medical apparatus and detect abnormal conditions of the mother and the child during pregnancy, labour and the puerperium; take the necessary emergency measures until the arrival of the doctor, including the manual removal of the placenta and manual examination of the uterus; take care of the mother and the new-born, promoting natural feeding, monitoring the course of the post-natal period and examining the new-born, and take all the necessary measures in emergency situations, including immediate resuscitation; provide gynaecological and obstetric care for the woman; provide education and healthcare in the area of preparation for family life, family planning methods, protection of motherhood and fatherhood, preparation for parenthood and childbirth, including advice on hygiene and nutrition, as well as lactation counselling, and prevention of women's diseases and obstetric pathologies; administer first aid and undertake rescue measures within the framework of cardiopulmonary resuscitation; perform subject and physical examination for the purpose of making nursing or midwifery diagnoses; issue prescriptions for drugs, foodstuffs for special nutritional purposes and medical products necessary for the continuation of treatment under medical orders; decide on the type and scope of nursing care services; provide preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation services within the scope defined in the regulations; analyse the quality of obstetric-neonatological and gynaecological care; organise own work. In terms of social competences, the graduate is ready to: be guided by the patient's good, respect the dignity and autonomy of persons in their care, show understanding for world-view and cultural differences and empathy in relations with the patient and his/her family; respect patient's rights; independently and diligently perform their profession in accordance with the principles of ethics, including compliance with values and moral obligations in patient care; take responsibility for performed professional activities; consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving a problem on their own; foresee and consider factors influencing their own and the patient's reactions; notice and recognise own limitations in the area of knowledge, skills and social competences and carry out self-evaluation of deficits and educational needs. In accordance with the learning outcomes set out in the educational standards for first-cycle studies in midwifery in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education on the standards of education preparing for the profession of physician, dentist, pharmacist, nurse, midwife, laboratory diagnostician, physiotherapist and paramedic of July 26, 2019 (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1573), as well as the Regulation of the Minister of Health of February 28, 2017 on the type and scope of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation services provided independently by a nurse or a midwife without a doctor's order (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 497), and in accordance with the Act of July 15, 2011 on nursing and midwifery (Journal of Laws of 2022, item 2702 as amended) within the framework of independent performance of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation services, the graduate is entitled to: perform a physical examination; issue a referral for specified diagnostic tests, including medical laboratory diagnostics, with the exception of tests requiring diagnostic and therapeutic methods posing an increased risk to the patient; prescribe drugs, excluding drugs containing very potent substances, narcotics and psychotropic substances, issuing prescriptions for foodstuffs for special nutritional purposes and medical products necessary for treatment. The graduate completed coursework preparing them to communicate and analyse medical literature in English at Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in accordance with the educational standards set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 26 July 2019 on educational standards preparing to practise the professions of doctor, dentist, pharmacist, nurse, midwife, laboratory diagnostician, physiotherapist and paramedic (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1573).

Learning outcomes

As of 1 October 2018, teaching outcomes became learning outcomes - Act of 3 July 2018. - Legislation introducing the Act - Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742 as amended). The learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences leading to a full qualification at level six of the Polish Qualification Framework are in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education on the standards of education preparing for the profession of doctor, dentist, pharmacist, nurse, midwife, laboratory diagnostician, physiotherapist and paramedic of 26 July 2019 (Journal of Laws 2021, item 775) and defined by the Resolution No. 12/2020-2024 of the Senate of the University of Opole on the amendment of the study curriculum for the full-time, first-cycle programme in Midwifery at the UO for the 2020/2021 enrolment. The student is obliged to achieve all the assumed learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and social competences included in the study curriculum, which is confirmed by the appropriate course/module credit (pass/fail, pass with a grade, exam). In order to obtain credit for a semester, the student needs to obtain passes in all courses/modules included in the programme of studies for a given semester (except for internships which are credited in the annual system) in accordance with the crediting requirements and assessment criteria applicable to a given course/module. In the course of the last year of studies the student must write a diploma thesis, which after being positively assessed by the supervisor and the reviewer allows him/her to take the diploma exam. Passing the diploma examination is a prerequisite for graduation. The diploma examination consists of two parts: theoretical and practical, and its course is in compliance with the current Rules of Study at the UO and the Regulation No. 81/2021 of the Rector of the University of Opole of May 17, 2021 on rules for preparing and archiving diploma theses at the University of Opole. In the course of the study, the graduate completed a total of 4780 didactic hours, including 2480 hours of theoretical training and 2300 hours of practical training (clinical training within the meaning of Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications) in:
- public and non-public health care institutions of in-patient and out-patient treatment (including primary health care);
- nurseries.
