Academic English 2 1.5.D3.F.EN.PS.06
The course starts with a general introduction to various aspects of studying academic English at B1 (B1+) level according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) . Students learn about academic culture and consider possible differences in study methods in different countries and in different study areas. This general introduction is followed by a sequence of classes developing in students the skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking academic English. The classes focus on grammar and vocabulary of particular importance in academic contexts. All the classes are based on authentic texts, which makes their understanding a demanding task, teaching at the same time reading strategies to students. The course covers key academic vocabulary essential for the development of academic skills.

Graduate
- has a proficiency in English at B1 level, knows grammatical, lexical and stylistic rules of correct uses of English, as well as of various registers to be used appropriately in academic contexts (k-W-1)
- knows the main methods of analysis and interpretation of uses of specialized language (k-W-1)
- knows the formal properties and application of various genres and conventional practices in academic communication (k-W-1, k-W-7)
Skills
Graduate can:
- write a coherent paragraph/essay in English, using various techniques of exposition, a range of sources and a sufficient number of arguments/perspectives/ details to underpin the thesis statement (k-U-6)
Social competences
Graduate is ready to:
- speak fluently and write competently in English (at B1 level) (k-K-1)
- cooperate with others in a team, assuming various roles (k-K-2)
- fulfil her / his tasks in a well-organised and reliable way (k-K-5)
Kryteria oceniania
- classroom participation,
- obligatory attendance,
- one written work per term,
- one final credit test (with a pass at the level of 50% + 1)
