Course objectives:
The lecture is aimed at detailing students’ knowledge of the theoretical framework, methodological preferences and analytic preoccupations of second language aquisition context. The course is intended as an elaboration and diversification of students’ broad orientation and to develop individual interests of selected areas of English Philology domain especially relevant in the educational context.

Academic Lecture series 4 will be dedicated to the process of effective communication in the classroom via Transactional Analysis. This is an interactive lecture in which students learn about a psychological approach to understanding human communication. Rooted in the theory and practice of Transactional Analysis, the lecture offers an introduction to the leading notions explaining the communication paths, what enhances communication and what blocks it

The main goal of the lecture is to familiarise the students with selected concepts of transactional analysis.

1. Main concepts of Transactional Analysis - introduction
2. The value of contract
3. Attitudes in communication (life positions)
4. Building relationships via communication (strokes)
5. Interpersonal styles (ego states - structural model),
6. Thinking styles (ego states - functional model),
7. Communication paths (transactions)
8. Games people play

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation - up to 80% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
2. A short reflective essay on which aspect of TA the student finds useful - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
