- deepening knowledge of literary notions, trends, genres
- expanding understanding of English literature

Specific topics to be discussed:
1. The concept of literature
2. What makes a good reader
3. Literary genres: prose, poetry, and drama - main features
3. Narration, point of view, methods of characterization and setting in prose (class discussion of selected short stories )
4. Imagery in poetry (class discussion of selected poems )
5.Action, setting, and characters in drama (reading a selected play; class discussion)

presentation, discussion, reading of literary texts, analysis and interpretation of selected literary texts, written work, ICT tools/e-learning/MSTeams option if needed

4. use the literary terminology and take theoretical standpoints resulting from English studies (k_U01/P6S_UW)
5. recognize different types of literary texts in order to perform their critical analysis and assess their relevance and impact in cultural processes (k_U02/P6S_UW)
6. read English-language texts and prepare elaborate presentations relating to English literary studies using formal sources (k_U04/P6S_UK)

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1) Informed participation in class discussion - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2) Written final test - 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
