Course objectives:
--improving general command of English at C1 level.
--extending knowledge of various grammatical structures, phrases and expressions
--developing fluency in written and spoken form at C1 proficiency level
--developing reading and listening skills at C1 proficiency level.
--preparing for C1 self-study exam

Course content:
grammar focus: sentence transformation and paraphrasing, and proper use of tenses, passive voice, causative forms, and conditional sentences
vocabulary focus: idioms, collocations, phrasal verbs, confusable words, word formation; vocabulary related to a variety of topics

Knowledge
Student knows and understands:
1. vocabulary, grammar, structures and stylistics in English at C1 level (k_W02/P6S_WG)
2. how to communicate effectively using advanced vocabulary and structures. (k_W03/P6S_WG)
3. specific language patterns and phrases used in writing, listening, speaking and reading in English (k_W04/P6S_WG)
Skills
Student can
4. use different phrases, structures and stylistic rules in order to complete such tasks as word formation, paraphrasing, filling in gaps in texts, completing sentences and sentence transformations (k_U01/P6S_UW)
5. use English at C1 level, with particular emphasis on tenses, passive voice, modal verbs, conditional sentences, unreal past constructions, time clauses, relative clauses, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, verbs and reported speech while speaking, writing, reading and listening (k_U06/P6S_UK; m-U-4/ P6S_UK)
6. take up individual and group activities aimed at developing language skills and study techniques ensuring success in learning and work (k_U09/P6S_UO)
Social competence
Student is ready to:
7. critically evaluate their own skills and knowledge and the continuous improvement of their skills, including language ones, while carrying out activities such as word formation, paraphrasing, filling in gaps in texts, completing sentences and sentence transformations (k_K03/P6S_KK)
Kryteria oceniania
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in class and preparation to class – 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
Informed, participation in classes (pluses for informed participation in discussions and exercises: 2 pluses 3,0; 3 pluses 3,5; 4 pluses 4,0; 5 pluses 4,5; 6 pluses and more 5,0)
2. Listening tests – 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
To get a credit students need to pass all tests.
3. Tests in advanced grammar and vocabulary of English – 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
Scoring of the final test:
Grade 2.0 (fail) – 0-59%
Grade 3.0 (average) – 60-67%
Grade 3.5 (plus average) – 68-75%
Grade 4.0 (good) – 76-83%
Grade 4.5 (plus good) – 84-91%
Grade 5.0 (very good) – 92-100%
pass at 60% of the final grade
