Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with and give practical advice on how to design and create professional business documents and commercial correspondence, compose letters, faxes, e-mails, reports, memos, CVs and covering letters, among others. Students will be provided with practical help in writing and editing business documents, such as orders, enquiries, invoices and payments, complaints and adjustments, reports, proposals and memos. Additionally, the course explains how to write clearly and effectively in English (on C1 proficiency level).

The course will focus on developing students' skills in:
Style and content, letters, faxes, emails, enquiries, orders, payments, transport arrangements, complaints and adjustments, banking documents, memos and reports.

1. how to recognize and compare formal and informal style of writing, and how to effectively carry out formal correspondence in English on C1 proficiency level (k_W02/P6S_WG)
2. how to match structures with corresponding forms of writing and logically arrange arguments to maintain coherence (k_W04/P6S_WG)
3. how to choose appropriate layout, style, and grammatical and syntactic structures to match a particular type of writing (k_W02/P6S_WG)

Students can
4. apply the rules of written business communication in practice and use appropriate methods and tools to prepare specific documents (k_U01/P6S_UW)
5. carry on both electronic and traditional correspondence as well as prepare and create business documents (k_U03/P6S_UW)
6. create texts in English for specific purposes on topics related to business, culture, economics, computer science, law, media, politics, science and sociology, using formal sources (k_U05/P6S_UK)
7. use the Business English language in writing with relative fluency and accuracy in a wide range of business topics at C1 level (k_U06/ P6S_UK)

8. Students pay particular attention to vocational work ethics (k_K06/P6S_KR)

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in classes - 30% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
2. Written in-class assignments – up to 70% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
Criteria of evaluation of the written in-class assignments (10 assignments)
Assessment criteria:
55% = 3,0
62% = 3,5
70% = 4,0
80% = 4,5
90% = 5,0
