Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to develop skills needed in the interpreter’s work, such as simultaneous and consecutive translations, including conference interpreting. At the end of their training, the students will be expert in a wide and solid range of knowledge, know-how and skills which they can employ in all aspects of interpreting and thereby communicate all the nuances of a message, formed by an author in a foreign language and in their mother tongue.

1. is familiar with the basic terminology in the field of linguistics and translation studies (m-W-1/ P6S_WG)
2. has a basic knowledge of the main developments, most important new achievements and fundamental disputed issues in linguistics and translation studies (m-W-2/P6S_WK)

3. search for, analyze, select, and use information related to translation by consulting academic and popular sources and tools, including electronic ones, apply techniques for collecting data, and produce good-quality translations in the form of interpreting (m-U-1/P6S_UW)
4. analyze target language (TL) translations in relation to their source language (SL) texts and evaluate the former objectively and constructively in case of interpreting (m-U-2/P6S_UW)
Social competences
Student
5. is ready to make responsible and ethical use of translation products and practices in and out of the classroom - regarding interpreting (m-K-1/P6S_KR)
6. shapes their own views regarding the significance of reliable translation for the development of the society and its general and specialized information needs (m-K-2/P6S_KK)

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active in-class participation: 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Interpreting: 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,4,5,6)
