Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to help students achieve fluency in discussing various topics in the academic context during oxford debates; to improve argumentation skills needed for studying and communication in English.

speaking on the following topic areas: technology, body issues, legalization of drugs and guns, education, money, politics, upbringing children, homosexuality, religion, art, celebrities, crime and punishment, the Internet, media.

Students:
1. know the importance of English language in various public discourses and are aware of the rules of organizing and holding a conversation and/or Oxford debates on various topics in the academic environment (k_W03/P6S_WG)
2. know various facts related to the economical, technological, political, financial, religious, legal and educational issues related to the English speaking countries (k_W06/P6S_WG)
Skills
Students can:
3. use spoken English correctly, fluently and effectively to discuss a variety of topics and can do a presentation on a given topic at B2+/C1 level (k_U05/P6S_UK)
4. collaborate with other students to prepare projects, presentations or debates in English that lead to the improvement of their oral communication skills (k_U08/P6S_UO)
Social competences
Students:
5. are well-organized, reliable, prepared and punctual as regards assignments and tasks which they are asked to fulfil (k_K01/P6S_KK)

Kryteria oceniania
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Preparation and active participation in class discussions - up to 100% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
Pass at 60% of the final grade
Make up tasks:
to get the pass covering their active participation, a student needs to prepare a video minimum 7 minutes long on every topic from the syllabus that they missed .
level of English: B2+/C1
- fluent, coherent, grammatically and lexically correct talk without breaks, repetitions, and reading (it must be a speech).
- the films can be recorded on a phone or a computer and put on a website or sent directly. The speaker must be clearly seen and heard.
