Course objectives:
Academic Major 1 is designed to lay foundations for the preparation of diploma papers in the next semester. Students are exposed to specialized and extended materials on the subject of mediated public communication, are expected to acquire specialist knowledge pertaining to the subject and start working towards delimiting the topic and plan of their research project

1-2. The main research orientations within public communication - revision and extension
3. Theoretical models and and research paradigms (quantitative/qualitative, critical)
4-5. The scope and results of communication research and appropriate methodologies (institutions, texts, recipients)
6. Media effects scholarship
7-9. Concepts and areas to be explored and implications for scholarship (representation, interaction, propaganda, ideology, critical literacy)
10-11. Varieties of discourse analysis
12-15. The main guidelines for framing diploma research projects.

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active class participation, debating and responding to presentations – 20% of the final grade (outcome 2,4,7)
2. Individual reading assignments - responses, reviews - 30% of the final grade (outcome 3,4,6,7)
3. Written/oral test - 50% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,5,7)
