Course objectives:
1. understanding authentic texts while reading and listening,
2. developing exam task-solving techniques,
3. developing the general command of English language at C1 level.

Course content
Listening comprehension: training in listening to understand the meaning of a range of spoken material set in the academic context at C1 level, including lectures, speeches and talks taking place in an academic environment, monologues, conversations held by two or three people on campus or University buildings. Training in a range of listening techniques, for example: listening for general information, listening for specific information, matching, gap-filling, paraphrasing, note-taking.
Reading comprehension: training in understanding different forms of written texts at C1 level such as: academic articles, lectures, critical opinions. Training in a range of reading techniques, for example: matching, discriminating, selecting, grasping general or detailed information.

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity:
analysis of different types of written and spoken texts, various forms of exercises developing reaing comprehension and listening comprehension, in-class discussions, ICT tools/e-learning option if needed - MSTeams

1. English at the C1 level, knows grammatical, lexical, and stylistic rules of correct uses of English, as well as of various registers to be able to comprehend various types of texts found in public communication, including authentic materials (k_W03/P6S_WG)
2. has the basic knowledge of the main methods of analysis and interpretation of uses of language in spoken and written texts at the C1 level in the context of public communication, media, and business (k_W04/P6S_WG)

The student can
3. read with comprehension and listen with comprehension to English-language texts and utterances at the C1 level in the context of public communication, including authentic materials (k_U04/P6S_UK)
4. use the English language at the C1 level (k_U05/P6S_UK)

5. comprehend and assess types of reading and listening texts in order to apply appropriate techniques to solve testing tasks (k_K02/P6S_KK)

Kryteria oceniania
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active participation during classes and preparation - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Two reading and listening tests (mid-term and end of term) - each 40% of the final grade.
To get a credit students need to pass all tests.
Level C1
60-67% – 3,0
68-75% – 3,5
76-83% – 4,0
84-91% – 4,5
92-100% – 5,0
