The main aim of the course is to develop non-heritage students’ basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the Chinese language

Course content
In-class activities are designed to increase students' learning motivation based on the topics below:
Book 1 Lesson 1: What is your name?
1) Sentences with verbs 姓, 叫 and 是
2) Simple type of questions with the particle 嗎
3) Questions with a question word (QW)
4) Abbreviated questions with the particle 呢
Book 1 Lesson 2: Hello, good morning
1) Simple sentences with stative verbs (SV)
2) SV-Not-SV questions
Book 1 Lesson 3: I like to watch movies
1) Subject-verb-object sentences
2) Verb-not-verb questions
3) Sentences with the auxiliary verbs (AV)
4) Transposed objects

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity
Direct instruction, interactive lecture (quick pairings or small group discussions) and collaborative learning (role-playing or problem solving)

W cyklu 2023/24-Z:
Course content: Book 1 Lesson 1: Book 1 Lesson 2: Book 1 Lesson 3: Moreover, the course uses teacher-designed Power Points to introduce vocabulary and grammatical rules, along with video-based materials for real-life conversation practice. Pinyin and traditional characters are used. Chinese character recognition, accurate pronunciation, including tones, and grammatical expressions are the main focuses for this semester. Apart from in-class practice, students are assigned tasks of both written and oral practice, which are specially designed materials prepared by the teacher based on students’ level. Student will have to be able to read texts displayed in both pinyin and Chinese characters. They are also expected to be able to comprehend questions, sentences or even conversations and respond with suitable answers. They are expected to write traditional Chinese characters as well. Everything mentioned above is included in their weekly assignments, final oral exam and written exam. |

Knowledge
Students should know:
1. the structures and stroke orders of Chinese characters (k_W03)
2. 70 basic words and essential grammatical structures of Mandarin Chinese (k_W01)
3. Cultures and societies in the Chinese speaking area related to the course materials.(k_W05)
Skills
After the course, students should be able to:
4. recognize everyday, high-frequency words in Chinese which are immediately relevant and delivered clearly and slowly, repeated, and supported by context (k_U01, k_U09)
5. master the Mandarin Chinese phonetic system (pinyin and tones) with satisfactory pronunciation (k_U04, k_U09)
6. read, write level appropriate passages in Chinese (k_U04, k_U09)
Social competences
Students should be able to
7. deepen their understanding of cultures in the Chinese speaking area in general or in some particular aspect(s) (k_K04)
