Interpersonal communication 2.5.E-KOMUN

The course aims to familiarize students with crucial topics from the area of interpersonal communication and to encourage practicing communication skills. Covered topics include basic aspects of communication, the role of nonverbal communication, active listening, assertiveness, and also issues regarding different contexts of communication, as public speaking or intercultural communication.
Classes are conducted in a way that encourages students' reflections and allows for practicing communication skills.

Definitions and components of interpersonal communication. Communication process Feedback - receiving and giving feedback, types and functions of feedback Non-verbal communication - cooperation with words and participation in establishing a personal relationship in interaction (posture, gestures, facial expressions, paravernal features of the voice) Active listening components Communication barriers and overcoming them (types of barriers, perception and its improvement, overcoming barriers) Manipulation and persuasion in interpersonal communication Typology of communication behavior in conflict situations. Communication behavior in conflict situations. Intercultural communication - differences in cultural styles Communication in the organization and in the organization - factors influencing the communication of the organization; vertical and horizontal communication, formal and informal

Efekty kształcenia

Knowledge

The student knows the elements of communication.
The student knows the rules for good interpersonal communication and is able to name communication barriers.
The student knows models of giving feedback, expressing thoughts and feelings.
The student understands the role of questions, paraphrasing, nonverbal communication, and language in the communication process.

Skills

The student can express thoughts and feelings.
The student offers constructive criticism.
The student can ask appropriate questions that allow to have a better understanding of the message and to build a relationship with the interlocutor.
The student can phrase a message in an appropriate way considering various contexts.

Social competence

The student can react in an assertive way.
The student works against discrimination and stereotyping in social relationships.
The student works effectively in a team.

Kryteria oceniania

- Attendance (2 absences are permitted), additional absences have to be made up for by preparing an outline of the topic;
- Group project – outline of the lesson on the chosen topic + presentation during class;
- Being active during classes.
