Introduction to interpreting techniques 1.2.5-EC-IIT
Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to develop techniques needed in the interpreter’s work, such as simultaneous and consecutive translations, including conference interpreting. At the end of their training, the students will be expert in a wide and solid range of techniques, know-how and skills which they can employ in all aspects of interpreting and thereby communicate all the nuances of a message, formed by an author in a foreign language and in their mother tongue.

m-W-1 is familiar with the basic terminology and conceptual framework of translation studies P6S_WG
m-W-2 has a working knowledge of the theoretical approaches to translation and the main research paradigms P6S_WK
Skills: Graduate
m-U-1 has the ability to search for, analyze, select, and use information related to translation by consulting academic and popular sources and tools, including electronic ones, apply techniques for collecting data, and produce good-quality translations P6S_UW
m-U-2 is able to analyze target language (TL) translations in relation to their source language (SL) texts and evaluate the former objectively and constructively P6S_UW
Social competences: Graduate
m-K-1 is ready to make responsible and ethical use of translation products and practices in and out of the classroom P6S_KR
m-K-2 shapes their own views regarding the significance of reliable translation for the development of the society and its general and specialized information needs P6S_KK

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active in-class participation: 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Command of Interpreting techniques: 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,4,5,6)
