Course objectives:
The main aim of the Academic major courses is to explore academic issues that will be a basis for the students own research in the second language acquisition context in the following semesters.
In Academic Major 3 the students explore their research topics from the theoretical and research perspective,

Students know and understand
1. the position and role of philological sciences and their place among the humanities as well as the analytical and methodological tools used in them; especially the role of second language acquisition in linguistics (k_W01/P7S_WG)
2. to an in-depth extent expanded formal terminology and theories of second language aquisition studies (k_W02/P7S_WG)
3. a wide range of analytical and interpretative methods relating to various cultural products analyzed within linguistics, including theories and research schools in the field of language acquisition (k_W05/P7S_WG)
Skills
Students can:
4. use terminology and take theoretical positions resulting from English studies in order to prepare their own advanced texts in English, referring to formal sources (k_U01/P7S_UW; k_U04/P7S_UK))
5. use the acquired knowledge and skills to deepen academic interests in the intra- and interdisciplinary dimension (k_U08/P75_UU)
6. use appropriate tools and methods to analyze own research problems and discuss them with other specialists in the field of English philology (k_U06/P7S_UK)

Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active participation in individual conferences - 50% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
2. sections of MA thesis - 50% of the final grade (outcome 2,3,4,5,7,8,9)
pass at 60% of the final grade
Bibliography
Reading list is individual and depends on a topic of a dissertation.
