Course objectives
The aim of the course is to improve students’ vocabulary and structures of English language at C1 level of advancement. Through analysis and practical training the course guides students towards their Practical English Exam.

3. analyse testing tasks using techniques of discrimination, matching, elimination, and gap-filling (k_U02/P6S_UW)
4. apply grammatical and lexical rules of C1-level English, in particular can identify and use parts of speech in a sentence (k_U05/P6S_UK)
5. rephrase and transform sentences (k_U05/P6S_UK)
6. understand, use and match expressions and idioms to a given context (k_U05/P6S_UK)
7. understand a range of spoken material and use English as a foreign language at the level of C1 (k_U05/P6S_UK)

Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation during classes and preparation – 40% of the final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)
2. Vocabulary and structures tests at the end of each unit- 60% of the final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
To get a credit students need to pass all tests.
Tests marks are granted according to the following framework:
grade 2,0 (fail): 0–54%
grade 3,0 (average): 55–69%
grade 3,5 (plus average): 70–79%
grade 4,0 (good): 80–89%
grade 4,5 (plus good): 90–95%
grade 5,0 (very good): 96–100%
