Specific topics to be discussed:
1. The concept of literature
2. What makes a good reader
3. Literary genres: prose, poetry, and drama - main features
3. Narration, point of view, methods of characterization and setting in prose (class discussion of selected short stories )
4. Imagery in poetry (class discussion of selected poems )
5.Action, setting, and characters in drama (reading a selected play; class discussion)

Student can:
4. use the literary terminology and take theoretical standpoints resulting from English studies (k_U01/P6S_UW)
5. recognize different types of literary texts in order to perform their critical analysis and assess their relevance and impact in cultural processes (k_U02/P6S_UW)
6. read English-language texts and prepare elaborate presentations relating to English literary studies using formal sources (k_U04/P6S_UK)
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1) Informed participation in class discussion - 20 % of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
pluses for informed participation in discussions and exercises: 1-2 pluses 3,0; 3-4 pluses 3,5; 5-6 pluses 4,0; 7-8 pluses 4,5; 9 pluses and more 5,0.
2) Oral presentation on selected literary work - 25 % of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,6)
Grading criteria
grades based on points; 3 aspects are taken into consideration: proper use of vocabulary and structures (including literary terms) 1-10 points; knowledge of the literary theme discussed in the presentation 1-10; the ability to engage the audience 1-10 points;
16-18 points – 3,0
19-21 points – 3,5
22-24 points – 4,0
25-27 points – 4,5
28-30 points – 5,0
3) Written final test - 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)

51-60% - 3,0
61-70% - 3,5
71-80% - 4,0
81-90% - 4,5
91-100% - 5,0
