- analysis of the phonetic and phonological system of the contemporary Chinese language
- learning the correct articulation of sounds.
- learning correct pronunciation, including intonation.
- learning to spell and stress

the pitch contour of a syllable of Standard Chinese
the stress, rhythm, intonation of Standard Chinese
