Course objectives:
1. understanding authentic texts while reading and listening,
2. developing exam task-solving techniques,
3. developing the general command of English language at C1 level.

Course content
Listening comprehension: training in listening to understand the meaning of a range of spoken material at C1 level, including lectures, radio broadcasts, speeches and talks, monologues, conversations held by two or three people. Training in a range of listening techniques, for example: listening for general information, listening for specific information, matching, gap-filling, paraphrasing, note-taking.
Reading comprehension: training in understanding different forms of written texts at C1 level such as: de-scriptions, analyses, reports, critical opinions. Training in a range of reading techniques, for example: match-ing, discriminating, selecting, grasping general or detailed information.

2. elements of linguistic aspects in written and listened texts at the B2+/C1 level, common for public communication (k_W07/P6S_WG).
Skills
The student can:
3. understand listened and written texts related to public communication at C1 level, with elements of B2+ level (k_U02/P6S_UW).
4. analyse written and listened texts from various sources of public communication at C1 level, with elements of B2+ level, using techniques of matching, gap-filling, guessing from context, skimming, scanning, paraphrasing, discriminating, note-taking, and grasping general and detailed information (k_U07/P6S_UO).
Social competences
The student is ready to:
5. develop communication competences in written and listened language, and improve cultural sensitivity to language differences in public communication at B2+/C1 (k_K06_P6S_KK).
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active participation during classes and preparation - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
2.Two listening and reading tests (mid and end of semester) – each 40% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5).
To get a credit students need to pass all tests.
