Course objectives
The Academic Writing course aims at preparing students to write their BA diploma papers by improving their academic writing skills.

KNOWLEDGE
The student knows and understands:
1. at the advanced level the role of the English language as a cognitive medium (k_W01/P6S_WG)
2. advanced techniques used when writing a diploma paper (k_W03/P6S_WG)
3. elements of academic discourse in the field of scientific writing (k_W05/P6S_WG)
4. the principles of copyright and its protection in relation to academic sources used to write the diploma thesis (k_W06/P6S_WK)
SKILLS:
The student is able to:
5. recognize different types of texts, conduct their critical analysis and determine their usefulness for academic purposes (k_U03/P6S_UW)
6. work in pairs or groups by completing written tasks - paraphrasing, summarising, defining (k_U13/P6S_UO)
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active in-class participation - 20% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Individual writing assignments - up to 80% (outcome 2,3,4,5)
60 -67% grade 3.0
68 - 75% grade 3.5
76 - 83% grade 4.0
84 - 91% grade 4.5
92 - 100% grade 5.0
