Course Objectives:
- correct articulation of the English phonetic and phonological system
- correct use of professional (and not colloquial) terminology when speaking on "sound" topics related to teaching and learning English

Course content of the English Phonetics 1:
(1) hour 01-08:
• Quiz on world languages (global and European situation) - with a special place for English.
• Phonetics 1: human speech organs - location, structure and physiological functions (cross-section of the human head).
(2 hours. 09-16:
• Phonetics 2: How is human sound produced?
• Language phonetics. 1: a detailed division of English consonants (according to place and manner of articulation).
(3) hours 17-24:
• Language phonetics. 2: a detailed division of English vowels (according to the place of articulation).
• Language phonetics. 3: a detailed breakdown of English diphthongs and triphthongs (+ examples).
(4) hours 25-28:
• A series of practical English phonetic and phonological exercises with individual student assessment.
(5) hours 29-30:
• End of semester control test + oral answer + corrections

2. practical exercises: language exercises performed individually, in pairs, in a group.

Learning outcomes
LEARNING OUTCOMES ACCORDING TO PQF 2019:
KNOWLEDGE
The student knows and understands:
1. the basic human speech organs, indicating them on the cross-section of the head and defining their most important functions (k_W04);
2. how humans generate sounds (k_W04);
3. English sounds - with the division into vowels, consonants, diphthongs and triphthongs, as well as the division of consonants according to the place and/or manner of articulation (k_W04).
SKILLS:
The student is able to:
4. correctly and with due diligence articulate English vowels, consonants, diphthongs and triphthongs (k_U08, k_U11);
5. distinguish sounds articulated by other people in individual words (k_U08, k_U11);
6. correct their own habits regarding the incorrect pronunciation of English sounds (k_U08, k_U11, k_U16).
SOCIAL COMPETENCE:
The student is ready to:
7. increase the level of awareness of the English phonetic system by pronouncing English sounds more carefully (k_K03, k_K04, k_K06);
8. self-improve one's own pronunciation based on acquired knowledge, heard and practiced patterns and phonetic experience acquired during the workshops (k_K03, k_K04, k_K06).
Assessment criteria
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Mid-semester control work (written): 30% of the final grade ( outcomes: 1,2,3,5,7)
2. The end of semester (written): 15% of the final grade (outcomes: 1,2,3,5,7)
3. Active participation in classes (numerous oral exercises): 55% of the final grade ( outcomes: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
pass at 60% of the final grade
