What is this programme all about?

This studies programme is directed at foreign students who want to aquire fluency in the polish language (at C1 level) and very useful skills in the german language (at B2 level).

The students are split into several groups depending on their language proficiency. 

The studies eventualy allow students to choose out of two modules to further specialize in:

- polish and german in business;

- polish and german in tourism.

... will allow you to choose one of many career paths and give you the opportunity to realize personal plans and projects. Thanks to extensive cooperation with cultural, artistic, business and educational environments, the studeis are modeled to prepare students for modern trends of the labour market.

Upon gratuation, a multitude of opportunies become available like work in firms, enterprises and institutions dealing with international matters as a sales representative, tourist office worker (e.g.: tour guide, trip guide, tourist attraction organizer) or as a worker of institutions dealing with cultural dialogue and partnership between nations (e.g.: cultural events animator and organizer, international exchange fund worker).

Access to further studies:

The first-cycle philology studies prepare graduates for further education at the second-cycle studies in the humanities.

Learning outcomes

The graduate of the Polish from Basics with German knows:
- the place and significance of the language studies in humanities, selected research problems, and used analytical and methodological tools;
- basic terminology and theories in linguistics and (to a basic extent) in literary and cultural studies within the theories and research schools of Polish and German studies;
- selected facts, phenomena, objects, and processes of a cultural, historical, political, and geographical nature relating to Poland and Germany;
- basic methods of analysing and interpreting texts and other works of Polish and (to a basic extent) German culture, within selected traditions, theories and research schools of Polish (and German) linguistics, as well as elements of academic discourse pertaining to the studied discipline;
- the complex nature of linguistic phenomena and processes in the Polish and German languages;
- basic legal, economic, ethical and linguistic determinants of one's professional activity arising from the studied discipline, the rules of copyright law and its protection in relation to various products of science and culture, in particular Polish and German.
- the content associated with the elective module (as specified in a separate list of module learning outcomes)

The graduate of Polish from the Basics with German can:
- use terminology, refer to arguments and formulate logical conclusions based on the research of other authors and take theoretical positions arising from Polish and (to a basic extent) German studies;
- search for and select sources, evaluate, critically analyse and synthesise information:
- under the guidance of the supervisor, formulate research questions and solve problems using appropriate research methods and tools;
- recognize texts and other products of Polish and German culture and carry out their critical analysis and interpretation with the use of standard philological methods allowing for an assessment of their importance and impact.
- use their knowledge of linguistics to communicate in an international context and to analyse critically texts of various kinds:
- communicate with the public using Polish at level C1;
- read and produce texts in Polish and German and prepare presentations based on formal sources using information and communication technology;
- take up individual and group activities aimed at developing language skills
- discuss, take part in a debate, present his/her own opinions, plan and organize individual and team work in order to exchange experiences;
- use the acquired knowledge and skills to deepen their own academic interests and interests of others
- use German at level B2
- use the knowledge associated with the elective module (as specified in a separate list of module learning outcomes)

The graduate of the Polish from the Basics programme is ready to:
- critically evaluate their knowledge and skills in order to solve problems arising from professional tasks (such as creation and translation of texts or language support in institutions and companies) individually and in cooperation with other experts;
- accept linguistic and cultural differences and recognize them as natural vocational factors, whose knowledge helps in effective communication;
- responsibly fulfil professional roles resulting from knowledge of the Polish and German languages and of both cultures, including observing professional ethics and requiring others to do so, as well as caring for the achievements and traditions of the profession;
- participate in cultural life and use its various forms;
- function competently, responsibly and ethically within the area defined by the elective module (social competences as specified in a separate list of module learning outcomes)
