Research topics:
My research is focused on enzymology of oxidoreductases, but included also elements of organic synthesis:
Compounds interfering with enzymatic diagnostic tests and studies of mechanisms of such interference.
Studies of substrate specificity of peroxidases.
Mechanisms of action of enzymes participating in melanization and sclerotization (tyrosinase, dopachrome tautomerase).

My small research group has all the basic equipment necessary for organic synthesis (rotary evaporator, immersion cooler, refractometer), isolation of enzymes and analysis of products of enzymatic reactions (spectrophotometers JASCO V-650 and V-630, HPLC instrument Dionex UltiMate 3000 with UV-Vis dual wavelength detector in the 190-800 nm range), equipment for isolation and electrophoresis of proteins (Bio-Rad Mini-Protean 3 and Mini-Sub Cell GT), refrigerated centrifuges (Thermo Scientific Evolution RC, Eppendorf 5810R and 5418R), lyophilizer (Labconco FreeZone 2.5), incubators Binder BD115, thermocycler Eppendorf Personal. The group also has access to the Faculty’s common equipment: FT-IR spectrometers (Nicolet Nexus and Nicolet 6700), GC-MS instruments (Hewlett Packard 5890/2 and Thermo Finnigan ITQ 1100), LC-MS (Dionex UltiMate 3000–Bruker Daltonik micrOTOF-Q II with ESI and APCI ionization) and NMR spectrometer (Bruker Avance 400 MHz). My group does not currently carry out any research projects financed from external sources.

Opportunities for international mobility of doctoral students:

Possible visits in prof. Tanja Schirmeister’s group at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, under short-term student mobility program of the FORTHEM Alliance or under the Erasmus+ program.

Other requirements for the candidates: good command of English and familiarity with MS Office (particularly Excel for processing and presentation of results).

Research topics:
Examination of the chemical composition and health-promoting properties of bioactive substances contained in selected herbal plants; The area of interest of the potential promoter includes mainly bee products (honey, pollen, propolis, wax), macrofungi (including hallucinogenic) and plants with medical properties. Recent research has focused on identifying chemical markers of honey (especially phenolic compounds and compounds in the volatile fraction) that are responsible for the biological and / or geographical origin of these products.
The proposed research topics will consist of the following stages:
- development of procedures and optimization of conditions for the stage of preparation of plant material samples for analysis, or for further stages of separation and isolation of metabolites;
- extraction, isolation and identification of active substances, including: alkaloids, saponins, phenolic substances (flavonoids and phenolic acids), and volatile compounds used min. in aromatherapy (e.g. terpenes, ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, esters, lactones, terpenes).
- assessment of the biological activity of secondary plant metabolites, bee products, etc., assessment of the usefulness of health properties of the tested raw materials. In addition, at this stage, the raw materials will be tested in a multifaceted way for health-promoting properties (including antioxidant and antimicrobial properties), anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, antihypertensive and anti-cancer tests are not excluded.
