Course content:
• Speaking, writing and reading exercises based on the following topic areas: culture, authority, race, media and technology in education, teaching, learning, career
• analysis of selected academic texts
• reading and discussing texts pertaining to the chosen seminar
• formulating critical opinions and supportive arguments
• using formal language
• giving academic presentations
• coordinating academic group discussions
• essay writing practice
• group discussion

Assessment criteria
Form of evaluation
- a regular evaluation of participation in class discussions (including preparation and coordination of discussions) and giving an academic speeches
(focus on the content, delivery and academic discourse features) – outcomes:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
- a final test in reading comprehension – 2,3,6
- min.two in-class essays and one take-home essay – 2,3,5,6
Criteria of evaluation
- a regular evaluation of participation in class discussions and giving an academic presentation– 33%
- a final test in reading comprehension – 33%
- two in-class essays and one take-home essay – 33%
Final mark is granted according to the following framework:
Grade 2.0 (fail) – 0-59%
Grade 3.0 (average) – 60-68%
Grade 3.5 (plus average) – 69-74%
Grade 4.0 (good) – 75-84%
Grade 4.5 (plus good) – 85-92%
Grade 5.0 (very good) – 93-100%
