Course objectives:
- familiarity with the successive stages in the history of British and Irish
literature in the 19th century
- familiarity with major authors and works within the successive epochs (Romantic and Victorian)
- ability to analyze and interpret literary texts – poetic, dramatic and prosaic - from the 19th century
- ability to formulate critical judgements

Preromanticism (Graveyard School of Poetry, the beginning of the novel)
Romanticism (Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, Byron, Austen)
Victorian period (Tennyson, Browning, Dickens)

Methods of instruction/ forms of classroom activity:
presentation, discussion, reading of literary texts, analysis and interpretation of selected literary texts, ICT tools/e-learning/MSTeams if needed

Student can:
4. recognize different kinds of literary texts written in the 19th century in order to critically analyze and assess them (k_U02 / P6S_UW)

6. take part in a debate - present and evaluate different opinions and positions in terms of philology and discuss them (k_U04 / P6S_UK)

Kryteria oceniania

Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:

1. oral test - 70% of final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,7)
2. presentation -10% of final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,7)
3. active participation - 20% of final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7)

pass at 60% of the final grade
