Academic Language Skills: Reading, writing and speaking 1 1.S2.EP.AP.1
Course objectives:
The aim of the course is to give students further practice in academic reading comprehension, writing and speaking performance with a selection of topics related to their academic interests. The students develop their fluency and accuracy as well as discourse complexity and richness of argumentation that matches C2 proficiency level.

• speaking, writing and reading exercises based on selected topics areas
• analysis of selected academic texts
• reading and discussing academic texts pertaining to the chosen specialty
• using the Internet and traditional data-base queries
• formulating critical opinions and supportive arguments
• using formal language as required by the chosen specialty
• giving academic presentations
• coordinating academic group discussions

Student knows and understands:
1. selected contemporary academic texts and the main trends of research among humanities (k_W01/P7S_WG)
2. theories, phenomena and general and detailed terminology of literary, linguistic, translation and/or cultural issues (k_W02/P7S_WG)
Skills
Student can:
3. use their knowledge and formulate and solve problems concerning the discussed issues, and perform tasks connected to a proper selection of sources and information, evaluation, critical analysis and synthesis of that information (k_U01/P7S_UW)
4. read texts and carry out their critical analysis and interpretation with the use of proper terminology, write academic essays and present orally on academic topics (k_U04/P7S_UK)
5. use English as a foreign language at the level of at least C2 of the Common European Framework for Languages participating in an academic debate (k_U05/P7S_UK)
6. manage group activities aimed at developing language skills and study techniques ensuring success in learning (k_U07/P7S_UO)
Social competence

7. critically assess their language skills in English and be ready to improve them (k_K02/P7S_KK)
Kryteria oceniania
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in class activities - 50% of the final grade (1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
2. Written assignments - 25% of the final grade (1,2,3,4,5)
3. Coordination of discussions and preparing discussion questions to the group - 25% of the final grade (1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
C2 level reaching 50% of accuracy in oral/written tests
pass at 60% of the final grade
