The main aim of the Academic major courses is to explore academic issues that will be a basis for the students own research in the second language acquisition context in the following semesters.

1. the position and role of philological sciences and their place among the humanities as well as the analytical and methodological tools used in them; especially the role of second language acquisition in linguistics (k_W01/P7S_WG)
2. to an in-depth extent main second language acquisition key concepts and theories (k_W02/P7S_WG)
3. main development trends and achievements in applied linguistics (k_W05/P7S_WG)
Skills
Students can:
4. use terminology and take theoretical positions resulting from English studies in order to formulate research problems and carry out tasks that will guide them towards their MA thesis topic (k_U01/P7S_UW)
5. connect linguistic knowledge with other scientific fields, particularly psychology, pedagogy, sociology and culture studies (k_U08/P7S_UU)
Social competences
Students are ready to
6. accept linguistic and cultural differences and recognize them as natural professional conditions (k_K03/P7S_KO)
Kryteria oceniania
Forms of evaluation of learning outcomes
1. Active participation in the classes - 45% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Written assignments - 55% of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4,5)
pass at 60% of the final grade
