Chinese language and culture 1 1.S3.EP.ECH.1
Course objectives
At the end of this course students are expected to be able to speak the Chinese language with basic knowledge of Chinese grammar and vocabulary to express themselves with accurate pronunciation. Both in-class practice and assignments cover the four skills of language.

Course content:
In-class activities are designed to increase students' learning motivation based on the topics below:
Book 1 Lesson 1:
1) Sentences with verbs 姓, 叫 and 是
2) Simple type of questions with the particle 嗎
3) Questions with a question word (QW)
4) Abbreviated questions with the particle 呢
Book 1 Lesson 2:
1) Simple sentences with stative verbs (SV)
2) SV-Not-SV questions
Book 1 Lesson 3:
1) Subject-verb-object sentences
2) Verb-not-verb questions
3) Sentences with the auxiliary verbs (AV)
4) Transposed objects
Moreover, the course uses teacher-designed Power Points to introduce vocabulary and grammatical rules, along with video-based materials for real-life conversation practice. Pinyin and traditional characters are used. Chinese character recognisation, accurate pronunciation, including tones, and grammatical expressions are the main focuses for this semester. Apart from in-class practice, students are assigned tasks of both written and oral practice, which are specially designed materials prepared by the teacher based on students’ level.
Student will have to be able to read texts displayed in both pinyin and Chinese characters. They are also expected to be able to comprehend questions, sentences or even conversations and respond with suitable answers. They are expected to write traditional Chinese characters as well. Everything mentioned above is included in their weekly assignments, final oral exam and written exam.

1. has the ordered knowledge of the Chinese language; knows the lexical-grammatical and phonological rules of the Chinese language at the A2 level, and the rules of the selection of means for expressing specific types of information (m-W-1/P6S_WG)
2. has the basic knowledge of institutions and cultural processes in the countries of the Chinese language area and is acquainted with current cultural life (m-W-2/P6S_WK)

3. has the ability to search for, analyze, select and use information utilizing various sources and methods (m-U-1/P6S_UW)
4. is able to use the Chinese language in writing and speaking at the level A2 of the Common European Framework for Languages with relative fluency, accuracy and communication efficiency in a wide range of general and cultural topics (m-U-2/P6S_UK)

5. shapes their own views on the basis of the gained general and detailed knowledge of the Chinese language area (m-K-1/P6S_KK)
6. has awareness of the responsibility for the preservation of the cultural heritage, and tolerance for cultural diversity of other countries and nationalities (m-K-2/P6S_KO)
Kryteria oceniania
Froms of evaluation of the learning outcomes:
1. Active participation in classes - 20% of the final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6)
2. Quizzes 20 % of the final grade (outcome 1,2,3,4)
3. Final oral and written test 60% of the final grade (outcomes 1,2,3,4,5,6)
