The Physics of Photography KZ-JO-O-03-02-000031
Contents:
1. History of photography – from Niépce and Dager to modern digital cameras.
2. How photography works – pinhole camera, single lens reflex camera, viewfinder, photographic plates and films.
3. Couple of words of action photos and advent of cinematography – how instantaneous photography in XIX century permits taking photograph sequences that capture animals and humans in motion and how this gives rise to photo-finish in sporting events.
4. Astrophotography – yet another direction. Works of Bessel and Herschel. From first daguerrotypes of the moon in 1840 to modern pictures, which permits to discern the scenarios of galaxies formation.
5. George Eastman and his Dry Plate Company. Making the photography ubiquitous.
6. The advent of color photography. Multilayered films and colour revolution in cinematography.
7. Polaroid cameras.
8. Invention of charge-coupled image sensors. First digital cameras.
9. How smartphones kill the (almost) entire digital camera industry. Photography became even more ubiquitous.
10. Correction of photographs – retouch techniques in XIX and XX centuries. How digital technologies revolutionize the techniques of image modification.
11. Final words – the photography at the crossroads between (always) physics, (earlier) chemistry, (now) computer science and (always) art – the future of photography.
